Modes
Track Eyes has four modes, each tuned for a different kind of video. Choose the mode under Mode in the menu bar (at the top of the window on Windows, at the top of the screen on Mac). The current mode is also shown in the Track Eyes window
For new recordings the mode is chosen for you: Goggles for recordings from a camera on the computer, and Smartphone (Iris) for EP Recorder (or Smartphone (Classic), if that's the smartphone mode you used last). Otherwise Eye Precision keeps the mode you used last

Goggles
For black-and-white infrared videos from goggles, where the pupil is very dark and the iris bright
- Starts at high contrast and low exposure, which suits almost all goggle videos. Adjust with the Contrast and Exposure sliders
- Blink detection is on by default
- Head Movement Correction isn't used: with goggles, the camera moves with the head
- Radial Variance Filtering (Advanced Settings) can help with difficult goggle videos
Nystagmus
Goggles mode adjusted for nystagmus, where the eye makes fast, repeated movements
- No smoothing of the pupil position, so fast phases aren't softened
- When choosing between possible pupils, roundness and size count for more than closeness to the previous position, so the pupil is still found after a fast jump
- Blink detection is off by default
- Same contrast and exposure starting points as Goggles; no Head Movement Correction
Smartphone (Iris)
The standard mode for colour video from a smartphone, including EP Recorder. It uses the same tracking method as the Eye Precision mobile app: from the previous position, it looks outwards for the edge between the pupil and the iris
- After confirming the pupil, you also confirm the iris (see Track Eyes)
- Auto-set Contrast/Exposure/Hue chooses the image settings for you
- Head Movement Correction is available, using a sticker or other marker on the face
- It adapts to changes in lighting by itself, so maximum pupil movement and the auto-threshold multipliers in Advanced Settings aren't used, and the pupil threshold only matters when the pupil has been lost and is searched for again
- The iris outline can be shown in the results video with View → Show Iris Marker in Output Video
Smartphone (Classic)
The smartphone mode from earlier versions of Eye Precision. It finds the pupil as the darkest area below the pupil threshold, as in Goggles mode, but with extra processing for colour video
- Auto-set Contrast/Exposure/Hue is available; untick it to set contrast, exposure and hue yourself. Hue can help separate the pupil from some iris colours
- Head Movement Correction is available
- The pupil threshold and the Smartphone (Classic) multiplier in Advanced Settings apply
- Worth trying when a video doesn't track well in Iris mode
Changing mode
Changing mode resets the contrast and exposure to that mode's starting values. If you've already marked the pupil, choose the mode first and then mark the eye region and pupil again
